Soggy Weekend 3/30/14

So this weekend we made our best attempt at keeping some progress going at the site. Had the weather been good the plan was to stand up some SIP panels. I think we'll be delayed a good 3-4 days for weather. As we'll need to dry off before we stand walls. Those of you who expressed interest in seeing the SIP panels go up. This Friday and Saturday we'll be doing just that. If you have some time to lend a hand for a couple hours feel free to come by!

On Saturday our work was cut short, I was fully soaked in about 2 hours even under 'cover'. Here are some pictures of what we did and of the conditions at the site. Some of the activites were finishing up screwing down the tiedowns in various locations, and putting up additional hangers for the joists.

We spent Sunday cleaning up the mess and trying to get water out of places where there shouldn't be.
Fun stuff...

This weekends work

So this weekend's work was 2 parts. Getting some nails in hangers along the 2 large beams going lengthwise across the house. The 2nd part was rotating all the lumber to make room for the grade-all to get into the garage to lift the big beams that are being delivered monday.

This weekends update 3/8/14

So this weekend we had some homework to do. We had to move a new lumber delivery up the hill to the build pad. We had to drive in some tie-downs. And finally had to seal the sill plate on the exterior. Thanks Ryan & Mike for the additional hands. OSB sheets are heavy! Check out the end of the timelapse you'll see us doing the work!

Timelapse 2/22 to 3/08 - Rain then Framing!

Towards the end of the clip you'll see the framing go up over the last week.
For next week I moved the camera back up the hill to look down at the build site and doubled the rate at which pictures are taken. It will be interesting to see how that turns out.

The drones are coming!

My old friend Eric T. came up with a r/c copter and did a couple of test flights. It was outfitted with a sony camcorder with a fisheye lens.. here's a picture of the copter:

Our robot oppressors have arrived
Below are the 2 movies taken during the flights. It was quite blustery on Saturday so we couldn't go that far without risking hitting branches etc.

It would be neat to launch this from the neighbors on a preprogrammed flight path to take pictures of the sight everyday!

Eric also sent me this link to a rant by Adam Corolla about building codes and retaining walls.. it hit home for me.. funny stuff.

Lumber delivery! 3/1/14

Well this weekends project was about getting lumber up to the build pad. We took delivery at about 9:45 AM and the truck couldn't make it up the mush so he had to drop the load right at the bottom of the driveway. Which meant we had to human power it up the hill one stick at a time.

My 10 year old daughter Tanya and I lugged 2x6's up the hill all morning..

Starting to stack on the garage pad
Finished stack of wood
All done!
At about 1pm we finished up. I also wanted to show you a pretty clever use of our stairwell. A few playwood boards and a door were used by our contractor to make a makshift shed to store equipment.

Creative interim use of stairwell
Framing will start this week.. there should be some more interesting pictures/video of the project once that starts.
